How to Set Up and Use a "hosts" File

Open up your TCP/IP control panel. This one pictured is from OS 8.6, but they should all be relatively similar, if not identical.

Click on the button that says "Select Hosts File..." and then navigate to where you have saved your "hosts.txt" file. Once that is done, you can delete the DNS entries ("Name server addr.:").

Once that's taken care of, ONLY pages that live on servers that you have in your hosts file will work. And as an added bonus, EVEN IF a manual IP address is used, it still won't work! As long as we can trust that Disney and Cartoon Network will keep their sites clean, I'll be able to put off the "sex talk" that much longer. ;)
