updatedb for OS X

by Michael Greifenkamp (May 28th, 2009)

Just a quickie...

Locate is a Unix command-line utility that finds files and/or directories on a filesystem. To update the "locate" database in Linux is easy--just type "updatedb" in a terminal window.

But "updatedb" doesn't work for OS X.

To update "locate" database in OS X execute the following, as root: /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb

You'll get a warning about revealing filenames to all logged-in users or some such, but that does the trick!
