Changing Mood

Funny how quickly things can turn around.

I had started a nice blog post about how nice the last week had been and how I had gotten a lot accomplished with the remodeling of the basement, and how I did all of my Christmas shopping on-line yesterday, and how we had a nice steak and salmon and baked potato dinner tonight, and then the redhead asked me if I knew the definition of a word (I didn't) and I opened another tab in Safari and typed the word into the built-in search field, and followed the ensuing link to Wikipedia and then Safari quit.

Really?

So my blog post went bye-bye.

The link was to Wikipedia--hardly a Flash-ridden, pop-up ad-based, weird-Internet-technology site that would normally make a browser misbehave. Really? Wikipedia crashed Safari?

Grrr...

My evening, and especially my mood, have gone a bit south since then.

Troubling, indeed.

I've been aware lately that my mood has been somewhat binary lately. My days of roller-coastering seem to be over, but lately, it seems that one small thing can switch me from content to not-content (to put it mildly, of course). I don't much like that. And I'd surmise that the family realizes this environment and probably isn't thrilled about it either.

The good news is that Dollar General has St. John's Wort again so maybe my few days "here and there" missing my doses will stop and I'll be more apt to level out again.

Not proven by the USDA, but I am pretty sure it does what people think it does, and I am relatively certain that no placebo effect is occurring.

Anyway.

I had a good week off. My head is somewhat less cluttered. Christmas for the kids is taken care of (did I say that already?).

One of the things I said in my blog post that vanished was that I got a lot of scrap metal out of here the other day--Papa has a pile of scrap metal at the farm that he periodically takes to the recycling place in Tuscola so I brought a few old futon frames out there and also brought some bags of aluminum cans out to the "block house" on the farm and got them out of here, and anytime I get rid of anything it is a good thing.

I even planted a euonymus bush yesterday--nice to plant a bush in the Fall to help with seasonal depression. This was an accidental start that I had clipped off a plant in front of the house that had actually rooted into the ground, and I had it in a pot on the deck in the back for a few months and figured I had better get it into the ground before winter. Digging in the ground is good for the soul.

I have more to write about, but I'm about written out, especially considering that I already wrote most of this once. I'm going to go back to watching football and I'll maybe post more later. Or tomorrow. I need to get back to doing this.

Where Did November Go?

So I spent all that time and effort (well, not really) to make my blog CSS-enabled and then haven't updated it in the past month.

I even got an e-mail from NaNoBloPoMo offering me moral support for blogging this month (or something like that). Whoops.

So what's the problem? Facebook. Twitter. It's amazing that one can write a 170 character post on Twitter a few times a day and it sort of replaces blogging.

And that stinks. I might make my point succinctly, but it really isn't writing. And this blog was always about writing, and the outlet that it offers. Geez, maybe I have to acknowledge that a few Twitter posts per day offers that same outlet and that this blog is now obsolete. That's a tough pill to swallow.

I think this blog is still my best outlet for what I think and do and I think my best bet is to stick with it. There's room for the Nerdrium, Facebook, and Twitter.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving tomorrow.
